New restaurant which hopes to compete with some of the best in London about to open
One of Britain’s most promising young chefs is to take charge of the kitchen at a new restaurant opening just outside Croydon.
No.12 opens in Kingswood on Monday, October 3 and one of the rising stars of culinary world, Jason Marchant, will be head chef.
He was trained at the famous Mayfair hotel Claridge’s.
CARE AND ATTENTION: Head chef Jason Marchant will be using fresh, local ingredients at No.12Jason then went on to become head chef at The Northbank Restaurant in St Paul’s.
And he now hopes to make his mark at No. 12 – a modern British restaurant, which is taking the place of the former La Perla Italian restaurant in Waterhouse Lane.
Describing itself as a “relaxed, food lover’s restaurant”, No.12 aims to use “the highest quality fresh ingredients, expertly cooked”.
COLOURFUL: Head chef Jason Marchant is used to cooking to top award-winning standardsRestaurant manager and partner Chris Lambert explained that Jason is able to cook to AA three rosette standard.
He said: “We are just so excited about the prospect of one of London’s hottest head chefs coming to No.12 in Kingswood. The dynamic new menu will really give Surrey’s food scene a shot in the arm.”
Yet, despite the high standards of food being aimed for, it is hoped the restaurant will have a relaxed atmosphere – and there won’t even be tablecloths on the wooden tables in the completely refurbished restaurant.
The menu will have some firm favourites on it such as cottage pie and burgers, as well as the likes of braised lamb shoulder, pork belly, hake and steak dishes. There will also be daily specials and Sunday roasts.
FAVOURITES: You can expect some much-loved dishes on the menu at No.12Chris said: “We are aiming for a warm, relaxing, comfortable restaurant where you can come with your family or you can sit there with friends for a wedding or birthday and everyone will be treated with the same sort of warmth.”
He continued: “It’s everything you would expect. There are lots of Michelin restaurants doing exactly the same thing.
“You aren’t going to have to go up to London to have the same sort of food you would have at The Wolseley in Piccadilly or The Ivy in Chelsea.
“There’s a lot of love, care and attention going into it. You don’t have to go to London – you can go to Kingswood to have a good meal.
TANTALISING: Beautifully presented food is being promised at No.12“Mum can bring the kids in for the kids’ menu and the same mum can come in the evening with her husband and friends and have a lovely à la carte meal.
“We use quality produce professionally cooked at sensible prices and our wine menu is sensibly priced.”
