McDonald’s could start a delivery service in Croydon this summer

McDonald’s could soon be offering a delivery service in Croydon – meaning fast food favourites like the Big Mac and Mayo Chicken will be brought straight to your door.

The fast food chain, which has more than 1,000 branches across the UK and nine in Croydon, has revealed it will be testing a delivery service this summer.

It is understood that the trial will only target a small area of the country before rolling out to other parts if successful.

A McDonald’s spokeswoman said: “It is no secret we have been looking at the potential of delivery in recent months.

“This service is offered in other markets around the world and its growth within the UK, continues to gather pace.

“Listening to our customers, we know that this is a route they would like us to explore, and I can confirm that we are looking to launch a small delivery pilot this summer.

“Specific locations to be included within this pilot are yet to be decided.”

Croydon has town centre restaurants in North End, Wellesley Road, Church Street, and the Centrale shopping centre.

You will also find McDonald’s branches in Valley Park, The Colonnades, Purley Way, London Road, in Thornton Heath, and Wickham Road, in Shirley.

There is also a branch just over the border in Wallington’s Asda.

It has been reported that the delivery of food will be dealt with by an external company, meaning Deliveroo or similar competitors could be in line for the contract.

It is not yet known how much McDonald’s will charge for the service.

McDonald’s already delivers in some overseas countries such as China, South Korea and Singapore.
