Norwegian launches £240 flights from London Gatwick to Rio in Brazil
The airline says they will be the most affordable non-stop flights from the UK to Brazil.
Airline Norwegian is launching a new air route linking Gatwick with Brazil in the new year.
The airline says the new route will have the most affordable nonstop flights to Brazil, starting at £240 one way.
The airline, which operates more long-haul routes than any other at Gatwick, says the flights to Rio de Janeiro will begin from March 31.
Each week will see four flights, operating on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday with 344 seats aboard a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner Aircraft.
Bjorn Kjos, Chief Executive Officer at Norwegian said: “We’re building on our expansive global network by launching the UK’s most affordable flights to Brazil and making South America available to even more consumers.
“Our new Rio de Janeiro route breaks the monopoly on direct flights between the UK and Brazil as we’re committed to lowering fares and making travel more affordable for all holidaymakers and business travellers.”
The flights are set to depart London at midday, arriving at Galeão International Airport at 7.25pm, while the return flights leave Rio at 10.25am and arrive at Gatwick at 1.35pm, local times.
Stewart Wingate, Chief Executive Officer, Gatwick Airport said the airport was delighted at the new route.
He said: “This pioneering service to Rio de Janeiro builds on the exceptional choice of destinations and fares already on offer for Gatwick passengers, which has grown to more than 60 direct long haul routes.
“The UK’s connectivity into South America is extremely important for the future and a new direct, affordable route to Brazil will provide exciting opportunities for both business and leisure travellers.”
