Signs pointing people towards flights and taxis made the Croydon mall look rather different on Monday.

If you were looking to catch a flight, you probably wouldn’t head down to the Centrale shopping centre in Croydon.

However, if you were there yesterday (Monday, November 26) you might have spotted it looking a little like an airport in places.

One passerby told this website: “Something’s being filmed in Centrale. Looks like it’s being made to look like an airport.”

We have also been sent images of the film crew in action, with airport props in the background.

BELOW: There are no clues on the Centrale Twitter page – the last tweet was from Friday, November 23 (article continues below)

In one photo signs have been put up, hanging from the ceiling next to Christmas decorations, which look very much like the sort you would see at an airport building.

One sign reads “Terminal A” with an arrow pointing to the left, while another pointing in the other direction guides people towards “Trains” and “Taxis”.

In the middle of the space a film crew is milling around and at the back of the shot people are sitting on chairs with luggage nearby.

In another photo from the shopping centre taken on Monday (November 26) a desk can be seen, set up as though it is an information or check in desk at an airport.

Again there are “passengers” nearby with suitcases, with one woman talking to staff at the desk.

But there’s also what appears to be a member of the film crew on his hands and knees, perhaps checking the set is in good shape before the cameras roll.

We have contacted the Centrale shopping centre to find out why it has been given an airport makeover and what the filming is for.

Until we get an answer we can only hope the next Hollywood blockbuster is being filmed right under our noses.

After all there was once a memorable scene set in an airport during the Christmas romantic comedy Love Actually – why couldn’t Croydon be the scene of the next big festive hit in cinemas?

We can dream!

Do you know why there is filming at Centrale?
