INTERNATIONAL WOMAN’S DAY

International Women’s Day (March 8) is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating gender parity.

International Women’s Day (IWD) has occurred for well over a century, with the first IWD gathering in 1911 supported by over a million people in Austria, Denmark, Germany and Switzerland. Prior to this the Socialist Party of America, United Kingdom’s Suffragists and Suffragettes, and further groups campaigned for women’s equality. source www.internationalwomensday.com

THE MAYOR OF CROYDON’S CHARITY 2018-19 IS CANCER RESEARCH UK

One in two people will hear the words ‘I’m sorry you have cancer’ at some point in their lives. Thanks to research, half will now survive the disease. But there is so much more to do and it is Cancer. Research UK’s ambition to see three in four people surviving a cancer diagnosis in the UK by 2034. They are the only charity dedicated to beating all 200 types of cancer – from the most common types – such as breast, bowel, and prostate – to less common ones such as brain cancer and children’s cancers. Their science benefits everyone.

Cancer Research UK does not receive any government funding and relies on donations from the public to carry out its life-saving work. Your support will help fund 4,000 scientists, doctors and nurses, enabling them to deliver the breakthroughs that will see their ambition achieved.
